Buy a High SEER Rated AC or Heat Pump

When you need to purchase a new central heat and air unit, make sure that the SEER number (seasonal energy efficiency ratio) is 13 or more. Choose an SEER 14 in a toasty southern climate. Less efficient systems mean higher energy bills. Use a certified tech do a system check prior to the heating and cooling season, and remember to swap the air filter every month. Make certain the condenser is in a shady spot which is uncrowded. Close rooms that are not being used.
